B.R. AshbyA native of Danville, Dr. Ashby grew up in Schoolfield. After graduating from George Washington High School, he entered the University of Virginia, where he graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine. After completing his residency training there, he returned to Danville in 1971 to open his practice. He has been very active in numerous local community service and business interests over the years as well as being actively involved with the University and other organizations in Virginia. He and his wife, Fran, spend as much time as possible with their three daughters and their families, including six grandchildren, in the DC area and their son and his wife in New York City.

Gretchen Clark

Gretchen ClarkGretchen Clark is a licensed professional engineer in both Virginia and North Carolina. Gretchen has extensive experience in municipal engineering, economic development, and land development projects in Virginia and North Carolina. Gretchen is president of Reynolds-Clark Development, Inc., an engineering consulting firm located in Pittsylvania County. She is a Board member of the Revitalization for a Greater Gretna and is a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church.




 Ben Davenport

Ben DavenportA native of Pittsylvania County, Ben earned a business degree from Virginia Tech, and after a tour of duty with the U.S. Coast Guard, returned home to Chatham to join his father′s business, Davenport Energy. Today, Ben serves as chairman of two companies, each of which employs over 100 area residents – Davenport Energy and First Piedmont Corporation, a full-service waste management company he began in 1969. A past recipient of the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year Award in 2006, Ben has always believed in community service. He chairs the Future of the Piedmont Foundation, serves on the Board of Directors of Hargrave Military Academy, the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation, and American National Bank. He is also a Deacon of Chatham Baptist Church. Ben is a past Rector and eight-year member of the Board of Visitors at Virginia Tech and past president of the Virginia State Chamber of Commerce.


Betty Jo Foster

Betty Jo FosterBetty Jo′s passion is – and always has been – education. A dedicated lifelong learner from Pittsylvania County, she earned a bachelor′s degree in Business Education from Radford University, a master′s in Vocational Technical Education from Virginia Tech, and a Doctor of Education degree from NOVA Southeastern University.  She is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education′s Institute for the Management of Lifelong Learning. Even though she ″retired″ from Danville Community College (DCC) as Vice-President of Academic and Student Services, she continues to teach as an adjunct professor at DCC, her employer since 1971. Betty Jo serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) and is a ″Certified Customer Service Trainer.″ She was the recipient of the Leadership Southside′s Excellence in Leadership Award in 2003, Citizen of the Year Award in Pittsylvania County in 1994, and DCC′s Outstanding Faculty Award in 1988.

Charles H. Majors

Charles H. MajorsCharley earned his law degree from the University of Virginia, was admitted to practice law in Virginia, Georgia and Florida, and joined the Danville firm of what is now Clement & Wheatley in 1972. With a specialty in corporate and banking law and after 20 years of practice, Charley became president of American National Bank and Trust Company and American National Bankshares, Inc., in 1993, and was named Chief Executive Officer in 1994. Charley now serves as Board Chairman of the Bank and the holding company. He is the past chairman of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia Bankers Association and Danville Regional Foundation. He is the current chairman of the Future of the Piedmont Foundation. In 2013, he served as President of the Federal Reserve Board′s Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council and was the 2013 recipient of the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year Award.
