The Dan River Region OST Leadership Lab is a multi-month professional development experience for after school and summer learning professionals. Participants learn how to observe, assess and improve programs using a common set of tools for program quality.
Our Impact
Quality programs depend on the knowledge, skills and capacity of the people delivering the programs every day. Improved academic performance, school day attendance and behavior comes from student participation in quality programs.
Our Start
Late 2022, community members expressed a deep desire to support our young people and understood that quality is essential to desired outcomes. The Danville Regional Foundation sought to strengthen quality and build capacity.

Participating [in] the OST Leadership Lab has significantly broadened my perspective on collaboration with colleagues in the region. Even though I'm still in the early stages of developing my after school program, the Leadership Lab has connected me with a network of professionals who are already implementing similar programs. This has encouraged me to seek advice, share ideas, and explore potential partnerships. Moving forward, I plan to leverage these connections to create a stronger, more cohesive community of after school programs in our region, ensuring we all benefit from shared experiences and resources.
Out-of-School Time Leadership Lab Participant
The Dan River Region Out-of-School Time (OST) Network is a dynamic new initiative designed to elevate, support, and connect OST providers across our region. In close partnership with the Danville Regional Foundation (DRF), this initiative seeks to create a strong, unified voice for out-of-school time programming—ensuring children and youth in our community thrive during the critical hours beyond the school day.
